#Myth: Late Night Snacking Will Make You Gain Weight
Have you ever been told that eating late is bad for you because...
Your body isn’t moving, therefore...
You won’t be using up as much energy, so as a result...
It makes you gain weight?
Answer: It’s not WHEN you eat that matters, it’s WHAT you eat!
1. Truth-bomb #1: A calorie is a calorie!
At the end of the day, your weight will depend on the number of calories your body takes in through the foods that you eat and the amount of calories that your body expends through its regular functioning & activity. This means that if you stay active and eat within your own energy needs, you won’t gain weight!
2. Truth-bomb #2: Pay attention to your eating patterns.
Have you ever noticed that we tend to choose more calorie-dense foods as the day drags on? Whether it’s at a party with friends, a movie night at home, a late night study session, or just out of sheer boredom, our natural first resort is to choose foods like chips, candy, cookies and soft drinks!
Here’s the thing though. There are many factors that influence when, where and what you eat every day! So take a moment and think about your own everyday habits.
Ask yourself the right questions and dig a little bit deeper.
→ What are you eating at night?
→ Why are you eating late?
→ Are you having trouble falling asleep?
→ Is it stress, medication or another external factor (i.e. unrelated to food)?
Answering these questions can make you more in tune with your body and can help you make more conscious decisions about what and when you should be eating.
What habits do you think need change?
